As part of its plan to capture the global family niche market, Golden Sands Resort by Shangri-La has launched Splash Zone the latest attraction offering children more fun in the sun.
Measuring 200 square metres, the Splash Zone is located between the two big pools, combines the sensation of water movements and interactive play elements in a safe “zerodepth” water play area. The mini water park with a non-slip flooring is constructed on a concrete slab with twisting roots fitted with water jets and mists shooting out in different patterns and directions.
Children will have an exhilarating time, with thrills and spills galore, all year round. The Splash Zone features whimsical sculptures, water slides (one of which is 30 metres long) with a landing pool, tipping water bucket and cones, water sprays in the shape of dolphins, butterflies, turtles, monkeys and squirrel and water cannons.
The Splash Zone was designed by Strike Theming & Leisure Consultants, a water park development and theming company that specialises in outdoor fun and with safety in mind. In addition to the new Splash Zone, the existing outdoor whirlpool has been redesigned and is surrounded by rocks and a water feature to simulate the ambience of a natural oasis in the garden.
The Splash Pad is the first of its kind in Penang that employs a special technologically advanced water management system that keeps water in its natural condition, making it suitable for all children, said Tane Picken, the resort manager.
“We are very excited to see this project materialise from concept to reality. Having it reinforces Golden Sands as the destination of choice in the family market segment. The Splash Zone complements the existing all-time favourite, Adventure Zone, the largest dry indoor playground for children in Penang. The Adventure Zone, which has 10,300 square feet of space, is split into two levels and features the Hyperglide Astra Slides, Double Slides and Demon Drop Slides, a 26 foot vertical drop for the brave ones,” said Tane.
Other daily activities at the resort to keep children occupied all day include craft making, sandcastle building, mask making, origami, movies, puzzle solving, a giant chess board, Jenga giant games, kite flying, traditional Malaysian games, interactive play and electronic games. Child-minding services are available for the convenience of parents whereby a 24- hour advance booking is required.
Registered resort guests can enjoy complimentary buffet meals for up to two children under 12 years old when accompanied by a paying adult through the Children’s Meal Plan and Kids Eat Free incentives under the Children’s Meal Plan.
The Kids Eat Free offer at the resort’s restaurants applies to children accompanied by a paying adult. Walk-in guests will receive a 50 per cent discount on buffet meals for children under 12 years old.
“Our multi-pronged approach in offering complementary attractions has maintained our brand identity by providing holidaymakers a safe, active, fun and memorable stay in a child-friendly environment,” said Picken.
Along with this new Splash Zone, the resort offers a value-added Family Fun Package for the ideal family getaway. From the rate of RM550++ valid now until 30 June 2017, it includes daily buffet breakfast for two adults and two children below 12 years old at Garden Café. The package also includes a complimentary bed for one child below 12 years and daily dinner (either buffet or set dinner with free-flowing soft drinks, juices, house wine or house beer) for two adults and two children at Garden Café. In addition, two children may enjoy unlimited complimentary access to Adventure Zone.
For each day of their stay, children aged 5 to 12 years old will receive complimentary access to Cool Zone Kid’s Club, which features fun activities from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., along with free lunch and dinner. Guests have access to complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the resort and daily free shuttle to and from George Town.
