Spread the love

Gone Rural UK are proud to present the launch of Takhi – The Elements Collaboration – the 1st artisan-led collection.

The idea of Takhi which means, “designing” or “making on your own” in Siswati, was first seeded during Gone Rural UK owner Natasha’s visit to Eswatini in March.  Natasha wanted to celebrate the design skills that had been developed under their successful training program in their Weaving Academy by commissioning the artisans’ first project.

This collection has been inspired by the four elements woven within an Eswatini setting, and it is with great joy to introduce you to this unique body of work.

“At first it was difficult as I did not go far with my education, I felt like dropping out, but I told myself that I don’t want to be a failure. So when times goes on with the practicing though was perfect. Today I’m feeling happy with the products I designed.”
Ncamsile Zwane

These are our 11 artisan women, most of whom had never held a pencil before and have journeyed through the entire design process to create designs around Water, Air, Fire & Earth:
Busisiwe Langwenya, Ncamsile Zwane, Thembi Simelane, Thobile Zwane, Nokhululeko Zwane, Ntombi Vilakati, Sibongele Mngometulu, Bakhetsile Langwenya, Simangele Simelane, Tholakele Gina, Happy Dlamini

The Elements Collection is available to pre-order  until 18th November. All pre-orders will be sent and delivered between December 9th – 16th.

Your investment
The purchase price of the products will go directly to the artisans as royalties, supporting community initiatives & facilitating the design process for further collections. Gone Rural UK goal is to sell between 250-500 pieces before Christmas for the women’s to wire up two community halls with electricity as well as furnish and paint them.

Special Thanks
Takhi – The Element Collaboration would not have been possible without the hard work and support of Anissa Dove, Mellisa Manzingi and Vashti Plant.
