Good time to scale incredible heights in India

egtmedia59Indian Ministry of Tourism has launched ‘777 days of the Incredible Indian Himalayas’ campaign on World Tourism Day.

Minister for Tourism, Government of India, Dr. K Chiranjeevi has announced that the Ministry will subsidise the Peak Fee chargeable by Indian Mountaineering Foundation for climbing expeditions by 50 percent during the campaign period.Dzongri-Goechela in Sikkim

The campaign is designed to propagate and reinforce tourism at majority (73 percent) of Himalayan range which is part of India. Minister reiterated that snow clad Himalayan mountains are in themselves a complete destination that can be explored round the year for variety of experiences; adventure and skiing in winters; exploring bio-diversity hotspots during spring; mountaineering expeditions during summer and leisure and cultural activities during autumn.

Hard and soft adventure, treks, lakes, rivers, bio diversity, spirituality and wellness options abound in the area. People living by the mountainsiMr. Ashwani Kakkar, Executive Vice Chairman, Mercury Travels, said: “Himalayan region is one of the biggest bio-diversity hotspots in the world with more than 10,000 species of flora and 2000 species of fauna. Subsidizing of Peak Fees is expected to motivate and draw many more climbing enthusiasts to snow clad Himalayas.

Tourism Ministers from the states that encompass Himalayas -Mr. G A Mir, Minister for Tourism, Jammu & Kashmir), Mrs. Amrita Rawat, Minister for Culture & Tourism, Uttaranchal, Mr. Bhim Prasad Dhungel, Minister for Tourism & Civil Aviation, Sikkim, Mr. Pasang Sona Dorjee, Parliamentary secretary for tourism, Arunachal Pradesh have all attested the campaign at its launch.

The Adventure Travel Association of India (ATAOI) is collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism in this campaign. They have designed special adventure programs running valid through the campaign and have released a book on safety regulations.

Ministry has released a Himalayan map, a directory of events planned during the campaign and short films titled ‘Greatest Show on the Earth’ and “Life Altering Journey’.
