If you have a spare pushbike or parts that could help someone in Africa, Abercrombie & Kent Australia (A&K) is organising collection and shipment as part of a program that empowers local communities by providing mobility.
The bike pick-up point is in Melbourne.
A&K Philanthropy (AKP) supports the operations of bike shops in Zambia, Botswana, Uganda, Jordan and Tanzania. Each bike shop in A&K’s Bike Shop Program employs five women, providing them with the opportunity to support their families through earned income.
The luxury travel operator says travel comes with a responsibility to leave the world a better place, to respect the natural environment and positively impact lives and livelihoods in the communities where their guests travel. To that end AKP was established in 1982.
Today, AKP manages around 35 philanthropic projects across the globe – the Bike Shop Program among them.

AKP Australia is arranging the shipment of a container of second-hand bikes and spare parts from Melbourne to the Duuma Wajane Bike Shop in Tanzania. A&K staff, guests and partners are invited to donate used bikes to the cause, with two weekends in November designated for drop off at the Freight Logistics warehouse in the Melbourne western suburb of Brooklyn.
