Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced the launch of the I LOVE NEW YORK Cash and Travel Lottery Game by the New York Lottery. Developed by the New York State Gaming Commission’s Division of the Lottery in collaboration with the Empire State Development’s Division of Tourism, the new I LOVE NEW YORK lottery game will promote tourism and travel destinations in New YorkDear Stephen Morton, State by offering the chance to instantly win a vacation to one of the Empire State’s 11 alluring vacation regions or up to $25,000 in cash. In addition, Governor Cuomo announced New York Lottery’s advertising campaign “Win What You Love,” which kicked off on October 21 to promote the new game.
“We are once again putting the spotlight on the state’s unparalleled recreational opportunities,” said Governor Cuomo. “Our tourism industry plays an integral role in this state’s economy and we will continue to invest in our natural assets to support local businesses, grow our regional economies and generate new economic opportunities statewide.”
First announced in July at the 2015 Summer Adirondack Challenge, the I LOVE NY Cash and Travel $2 scratch-off lottery game officially hit stores on October 13 and is now available for purchase at lottery retailers across the state. Those whose scratch-off tickets do not instantly win a trip or cash award can enter their tickets online for one of four drawings that will be held between November and the end of March. Each of these four “second chance” sweepstakes offers the chance to win one of 11 trips in any of New York State’s 11 regions, one of 100 prizes of $50 worth of I LOVE NY scratch-off tickets and one of 100 prizes of I LOVE NY merchandise packages. There will also be a final sweepstakes entering non-winning tickets in a sweepstakes for one additional trip.
Travel prize trips all include lodging, activities, some meals and up to $1,500 in spending money. Each trip is valued at nearly $5,000 bringing the total value of prize trips to $300,000. Among the exciting travel prizes are a four-night Thousand Islands Getaway for Two that features a private night complete with a catered dinner and breakfast at Singer Castle, located on its own seven-acre island, and a five-night Greater Niagara/Niagara Falls Vacation for Four that includes thrilling excursions such as whirlpool jet boat and helicopter tours, canal cruises and a ride on the Maid of the Mist.
Both thrill seekers and those who enjoy being pampered will love the Adirondacks Vacation for Two prize, which includes a spa credit and whitewater rafting trip as part of a three-night stay. Spas are also part of the three-night Capital-Saratoga Getaway for Two, which features a mineral bath and massage at the Roosevelt Baths and Spa, and the Chautauqua-Allegheny Getaway for Four, which also includes three days of winter lift tickets or summer Sky High Aerial Park access.
Active travelers will especially love the Catskills prize, a three-night getaway for two that invites winners to enjoy guided fly fishing, mountain biking outings and other typical Catskill experiences from golf to kayaking, while baseball fans will be excited to learn that a Harman Killebrew autographed bat is part of a three-night Cooperstown Getaway for Two prize in the Central New York region.
Foodies will be delighted to enjoy dinner at the Culinary Institute of America as part of the two-night Hudson Valley Getaway for Two prize while wine enthusiasts will enjoy the two-night Long Island Getaway for Two in Southampton, featuring a three-winery and dinner tour by limo, and the three-night Finger Lakes Waterfalls & Wineries Spa Getaway for Four. And for urban explorers, the three-night New York City Getaway for Two prize features a three-day New York Pass with Hop-on Hop-off bus access and admission to 80 NYC attractions.

There are 12 million I LOVE NY Cash and Travel tickets available at the nearly 18,000 retail locations across New York State, noted Empire State Development President, CEO & Commissioner Howard Zemsky. “We’re bringing New York’s unique travel regions to a whole new audience and supporting tourism statewide. This collaborative effort gives us the opportunity to offer New Yorkers these vacations in a fun and exciting way while creating awareness of the state tourism brand.”
Helping maximize the promotional value of the lottery to travel destinations across the state is the New York Lottery’s multi-faceted marketing campaign, “Win What You Love.” Created by the New York Lottery’s new advertising agency, McCann, it includes statewide television, radio, digital, and out-of-home advertising, point-of-sale displays and social media. The iconic “I Love New York” song is used to announce the new scratch-off game in a playful way in keeping with the spirit of the New York Lottery brand while using beautiful landscapes, nostalgia and humor to make the campaign fun, inviting and sharable.
The campaign includes a social media contest encouraging players to take a picture of their lottery ticket in one of their favorite New York State locations and post it on their Facebook page using #WinWhatYouLove. Twenty winners will be randomly selected to receive New York Lottery merchandise and I Love New York scratch-off tickets.
