Spread the love

If you’re looking for some inspo for your next girls’ getaway, we’ve got you covered. Whether your girl gang are foodies, beach babes or walking wonder women, Lake Macquarie has something for everyone. Best thing is, the only driving involved is an easy 90 minutes up the M1 freeway from Sydney – the opposite direction of your children driving you crazy – who you’ve left in the trusting hands of your husband… along with the number for the pizza man.

In this list, we’ve done the heavy lifting for you, because we understand the pain of chipped nail polish. Here are the rules for the ultimate girl’s vacay – no work talk, no calorie counting and loud off-key singing in the car is compulsory.

The Fab Foodies

Eat: Lots… and try Sephardim

Do: Explore Creative LAKE

Stay: Bluebells Retreat

When you think girls’ trip, if the first thing that comes to mind is a glass of vino, eating loads of delicious food (cue food coma) and gossiping with the gals, then this is the itinerary for you.

Perfect for you and five of your besties, Bluebell Retreat has the ultimate wine-time deck overlooking lovely Lake Macquarie. Nearby there are great beaches and walking trails to explore, so you’ll feel a million miles away from the daily grind. That being said, we won’t judge you if all you want to do is lounge around and eat cheese.

For dinner, head to Warners Bay for a smorgasbord of restaurants to choose from – we recommend Sephardim, think mouth-watering mezze plates and delicious cocktails! The best part of dining with your girlfriends? You get to try everything!

If you’re looking for things to do when you’re not eating, try the Creative LAKE trail. New to Lake Macquarie in 2018, Creative LAKE is an eclectic collection of artworks positioned around the Lake in popular foreshore locations from Speers Point to Eleebana.

The Beach Babes

Eat: Mawson

Do: Slip, slop, slap at Caves Beach

Stay: Caves Coastal

Lake Macquarie is home to some of New South Wales’ best beaches, so it’s a no brainer that this region is a beach babe’s go-to. At Caves Coastal, you and your girl gang can take over the Beach House – with four bedrooms and amazing views of Caves Beach, you’ll be in your element.

For afternoon drinks, head to Caves Coastal’s bar and enjoy the sunset from the enormous deck. When you’re ready to move on, the Mawson is where to go. Put a ban on baby talk, sip on cocktails and order from their extensive menu, guaranteed to keep all the girls happy.

Want to spend the day chillaxing? Take an easy 350m walk down to Caves Beach. Here you can soak up the sun, take a stroll along the water’s edge or opt for some low-tide cave exploration. Things are seriously laid back at the Lake, you’ll want to leave work early on Friday to make the most of it.

The Walking Wonder Women

Eat: Wangi Deck Café

Do: Walking in the Watagans Mountains

Stay: Pulbah Views at Wangi Wangi

For the squad that likes things a little more fast-paced… just to feel like you’ve all earnt a glass (or two) at the end of the day, Pulbah Views at Wangi Wangi is the perfect spot to enjoy those cheeky drinks. Boasting floor to ceiling windows overlooking the Lake, you and 7 of your besties can experience the absolute best of Lake Macquarie’s stunning sunsets.

Spend your nights in the alfresco area (complete with outdoor kitchen!) catching up on all the goss, and when the sun rises, get the gang down to Wangi Deck Café to refuel with a creamy coffee and scrumptious breaky before the day’s activities.

Go chasing waterfalls – we know you just sung that, TLC fans! Head up to Watagans Mountains to find the best walks in Lake Macquarie – Gap Creek Falls is our favourite. This Instaworthy walk is overflowing with emerald greenery and is the perfect spot for a “look what we did” squad selfie.

Whether it’s an annual tradition, reunion or just another trip with your closest gal pals – fire up the group chat and get to Lake Macquarie. No excuses!
