Grand Canyon West and Hualapai Tribe Celebrate 20th Anniversary of Hualapai Lodge Hotel As Gov. Doug Ducey Declares 10/25 “Hualapai Tribe and Grand Canyon West Day”
The Hualapai Tribe and Grand Canyon West will mark the 20th anniversary of the Hualapai Lodge hotel along historic Route 66 on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, with a ceremony gathering together scores of tribal officials and elected and business leaders from across the region. In honor of the event, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has declared Tuesday “Hualapai Tribe and Grand Canyon West Day” in an official proclamation from his office.
The hotel, which features more than 60 guest rooms, was first opened in 1996 along the longest stretch of highway left of the original Route 66. It serves as the primary starting point for thousands of travelers looking to explore the West Rim of the Grand Canyon. Rooms at the hotel and its lobby feature authentic Hualapai artwork, cultural icons and performances.
The ceremony commemorating the opening of the lodge begins at 11 a.m., Tuesday. The hotel is located at 900 Historic Route 66, Peach Springs AZ 86434.
Ducey’s proclamation focuses on how the Tribe, it’s Grand Canyon Resort Corporation and the hotel have added to the tourism economy of the region and the state. It reads:
WHEREAS, the State of Arizona and the Hualapai Tribe for many years have enjoyed a cooperative partnership on issues and efforts impacting all Arizonans; and
WHEREAS, the Hualapai Tribe, also known as “The People of the Tall Pines,” have promoted tourism to stimulate economic growth and job creation for residents who call Mohave County home; and
WHEREAS, the Grand Canyon Resort Corporation is owned by the Hualapai Tribe to oversee the operation of Grand Canyon West which offers unparalleled experiences from sky, land water that have attracted millions of visitors from around the world; and

WHEREAS, the 25th day of October 2016, marks the 20th anniversary of the grand opening of the Hualapai Lodge; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Douglas A. Ducey, Governor of the State of Arizona, do hereby proclaim October 25, 2016 as
