Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur Appoints Ashutosh Kumar As New Pastry Chef

Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is pleased to announce the appointment of Ashutosh Kumar as its new Pastry Chef. In this role, Ashutosh will be in charge of all bakery and pastry operations in the hotel’s food and beverage outlets, THIRTY8 and JP teres.

Born and raised in India, Ashutosh began his career with Hyatt in 2013, as Assistant Pastry Chef at Hyatt Regency Gurgaon, the largest MICE hotel in New Delhi, India. In only a short period of time, his skill and hard work earned him a promotion to Pastry Chef with responsibility for bakery and pastry operations whilst assisting the Executive Chef in running the overall kitchen.

Prior to joining Hyatt, Ashutosh accumulated considerable experience in some of the finest luxury hotels in India, such as The Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi, The Taj Falaknuma Palace in Hyderabad, and The Leela Palace in both New Delhi and Goa. He gained further valuable experience by being part of the pre-opening team for several hotels within India.

During his career, Ashutosh has been featured in a variety of magazines thanks to his contemporary French pastry creations, combined with traditional Indian flavours using modern techniques. He draws inspiration from the work of world-renowned pastry chefs such as Pierre Hermé, Paco Torreblanca, Christophe Michalak and at the same time, he is fascinated by some of the ideas off the new generation of pastry wizards. Ashutosh has had an immense enthusiasm for pastry since the tender age of ten when his mother taught him how to make gajar halwa, an Indian carrot pudding. His interest in pastry developed further when he pursued an internship at The Oberoi Bangalore, and from that time on, was intrigued by how making pastry was a unique combination of science and art.

Specialising in contemporary French pâtisserie, Ashutosh is committed to raising the standards of pastry-making in tandem with the growing international and local trends in Kuala Lumpur.
