Grand Nikko Bali’s Annual Golf Tournament has become one of the most highly anticipated events on the island’s sporting calendar. This year’s tournament was another huge success and took place at Bali National Golf on Saturday, 4 June 2016.
A portion of the revenue generated from the tournament will directly benefit “Steps to Freedom” programme, a worthy charity that the resort has chosen to support. In partnership with Inspirasia Foundation and Puspadi Bali, a local NGO that has been working with people with physical disabilities since 1999, “Steps to Freedom” programme aim to improve the quality of life for physically disabled people with mobility issues in Bali and Eastern Indonesia.
More than 120 golfers actively participated in this charity initiative. Funds were raised from a number of different activities, such as the Mulligans coupons which were included in the registration fee. Most players also took part in the optional games of skill like the Putting Contest, Eagle Challenge and Beat the Pro Contest with all of the proceeds up for donation.
An impressive total of IDR 21.150.000 was raised during the tournament. The General Manager of Grand Nikko Bali, Jean-Charles Le Coz, formally presented a symbolic cheque to the Founder of Puspadi Bali, I Nengah Latra during the award presentation night at the resort’s MPF Ballroom.
“We are delighted that we can make a life-changing donation with the proceeds from this year’s tournament. We sincerely hope that our contribution will help physically disabled members of the local community to access rehabilitation services and establish their place in society as productive citizens,” said Jean-Charles Le Coz, General Manager of Grand Nikko Bali.
The “Steps to Freedom” programme was launched in May 2016 in partnership with Puspadi Bali and Inspirasia Foundation, the main donor of Puspadi Bali since 2004, which is also dedicated to funding and supporting a number of local organizations in Bali. This programme is a bridge that helps to ensure that donations from resort guests, associates, and also the golf tournament participants are well spent and channelled directly to fund the making of artificial legs at Puspadi Bali.
