TRAVEL TV series The Great Australian Doorstep has taken out a Bronze Stevie® Award in the creative and communications media category of the 14th Annual International Business Awards being held in Spain next month.

The long-running program, which has gained an international following for its unique focus on self-drive, camping and caravanning holidays, was honoured in the sub-category of Video Awards – Tourism and Travel in the world’s premier business awards program, which in 2017 received entries from more than 60 nations and territories.

Nicknamed the Stevies the Greek word for “crowned,” the awards will be presented to winners at a gala awards banquet at the W Hotel in Barcelona, Spain on 21 October.

Hosted by Gold Coast celebrity couple, AFL legend Peter ‘Spida’ Everitt and wife Sheree, The Great Australian Doorstep screens in Australia on 7TWO, along with radio broadcasts by Southern Cross Austereo – home of Spida’s top-rated breakfast show with Bridget Daly and Adrian Johnson on the Gold Coast’s 92.5 GOLD FM – as well as by 42 radio stations across Australia.

Ms Everitt said the show’s team was thrilled to be selected as winners in the highly regarded awards from amongst a pool of entrants from all around the world.

“Winning an award like this is a real pinch-yourself moment for us. When we started the show it was about following our passions and it still is,” Ms Everitt said.

“We packed up the kids and went on the road to see where the journey would take us, and ten years later we are showcasing the real Australia to people all around the world and that is an incredible feeling.

“We are so honoured to receive this award, and to have the privilege of showcasing some of the most amazing and lesser known gems of regional Australia that most tourists might otherwise never consider visiting,” she said.

Stevie Award winners were determined by the average scores of more than 200 executives worldwide who participated on 12 juries.

All individuals and organisations worldwide – public and private, for-profit and non-profit, large and small – are eligible to submit nominations for the International Business Awards.

Stevie Awards president and founder Michael Gallagher said a record total of more than 3,900 nominations from organisations of all sizes and in virtually every industry were submitted this year across a wide range of categories, including Company of the Year, Marketing Campaign of the Year, Best New Product or Service of the Year, Startup of the Year, Corporate Social Responsibility Program of the Year, and Executive of the Year, among others.

“The IBA judges from across the world were highly impressed with the nominations they reviewed this year,” Mr Gallagher said.

“With the level of achievement documented in the nominations from 60 nations, the Stevie Awards are proud to honor organisations that demonstrate a high level of achievement in a variety of industries.”

The win is another milestone in a stellar year for The Great Australian Doorstep, which is set to makes its free-to-air debut on Chinese screens after securing a five-year partnership with China Central Television (CCTV) to be broadcast weekly across the Chinese Mainland to a potential viewing audience of more than one billion people.

The series features such iconic destinations as Uluru, Kakadu, the Kimberley, and the Whitsundays; with motorhome adventures across New Zealand, Canada, Alaska, and Asia adding spice to the on-air mix.
