Great speaker line-up for 2013 TIA Summit

A great line-up of stimulating speakers will share their vision for the future of New Zealand’s tourism industry at the 2013 TIA Summit.

Taking place at Te Papa, Wellington, on 1 October, the 2013 TIA Summit will see the launch of Tourism 2025*, a framework to unite and inspire growth in New Zealand’s $23.4 billion tourism industry.

“This project has wide support from across the tourism industry and beyond. Speakers at the 2013 TIA Summit will bring valuable insights into how we can build on the Tourism 2025 framework to trigger economic growth.”

Speakers include:

·         Christopher Luxon
Air New Zealand’s Chief Executive will outline how the national carrier’s ‘Go Beyond’ strategy is fully aligned with Tourism 2025 and will help bring it to life.

·         Kevin Bowler
Tourism New Zealand’s Chief Executive will lead a discussion offering insights into the rapidly emerging Indonesian market. What lessons can the tourism industry learn from the recent development of the Chinese market to ensure we gain maximum value from this and other new markets?

·         Dr Pawel Grochowicz
The Tourism 2025 Consulting Director brings over a decade of experience in managing change and growth, working at CEO and Board level with some of the largest businesses in the country. Dr Grochowicz offers insight into long-term, systemic change and the best ways to adapt and benefit from that change.

·         Shamubeel Eaqub
The New Zealand Institute of Economic Research (NZIER) Principal Economist is a passionate economist interested in the workings of the New Zealand economy. He will explain how to measure tourism productivity, how to increase it, and why it matters to individual businesses and the industry.

·         Sharon van Gulik
Westpac New Zealand’s Head of Brand and Marketing Communications will discuss the importance of the visitor (customer) experience. Westpac is premier sponsor for the 2013 TIA Summit and a TIA Business Partner.

·          Rachael Carroll
General Manager, Destination & Marketing with Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED), Mrs Carroll has a wealth of experience in event management. She will discuss how events can be used to stimulate tourism growth.

·         Jamie Fitzgerald
He beat the odds to row across the Atlantic and to complete the first unsupported journey on foot to the South Pole. One of the stars of the First Crossings TV series, Mr Fitzgerald is a world-class adventurer, motivational speaker and leadership development consultant who specialises in changing mindsets to help individuals and teams achieve more.

·         Andrew McEvoy
Tourism Australia’s Chief Executive will share his industry’s experience of the development and implementation of Australia’s national tourism plan, Tourism 2020.

The 2013 TIA Summit will culminate with the Wellington Airport Summit Dinner where we will celebrate not only the launch of Tourism 2025 but also 60 years of New Zealand’s national tourism industry organisation.

The winners of the PATA Young Tourism Leader and Crowe Horwath International Sir Jack Newman Awards for 2013 will also be announced at the dinner.

*TIA is working with both the private sector and public sector to develop Tourism 2025, an aspirational plan that aims to unite and inspire the industry to adapt and succeed. It has a firm focus on growth – yield, profitability and return on investment ­– and improved sector productivity, all underpinning a quality visitor experience. It will be launched at the 2013 TIA Summit, taking place in Wellington on 1 October.
