Green Spaces set to be Celebrated

February 12, 2014 Destination Global No Comments Email Email

Any green space that provides drinking water to one in three of the world’s 100 largest cities deserves a celebration.

Now in its third year, Parks Week is being held during March 3-9 and will celebrate the vital role parks contribute to the community.

Parks Week 2 (2)The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has created a series of over 30 activities to be held across the state and close to Sydney’s centre, providing the community with an opportunity to be involved.

With a theme of ‘connect with nature’, this year’s Parks Week is focussed on encouraging the community to step away from a busy lifestyle and to go outside and reconnect with their local parks and green spaces.

Some examples of Parks Week experiences on offer by the NPWS will include:

•A community open day at Glenrock State Conservation Area showcasing Aboriginal cultural heritage along with a range of recreational experiences offered in NSW National Parks such as mountain biking, horse riding, hang gliding, surfing, bush regeneration, art, Discovery tours and WilderQuest.

Bird Hide - Family & Ranger•  WilderQuest Wildlife Scouts event at Dorrigo National Park – an exciting new 2-hour ranger-guided quest for children to search for native wildlife in the rainforest.

• The South Coast Volcano Tour to various South Coast Parks – a fully catered all-day tour aboard a 22-seater coach with a NSW National Parks Discovery expert that promises a hands-on exploration of our ancient ‘hotspots’.

•   Cinema in the Sky in the Camp Precinct of Scheyville National Park – three nights, three fantastic films under the night sky.

• Pilliga Mountain Bike Challenge Pilliga Forest – a Mountain Bike Tour to the Salt Caves that offers a new route for cyclists ending at the Pilliga Lookout Tower.
