“Happy Moments” Sculpture Exhibition @ Harbour City

201405281517_b1c29ff6_2Our childhood memories are the foundation of happy moments in our lives while playgrounds play a big part in creating those happy childhood memories, and with that Harbour City have transformed its Ocean Terminal Forecourt into a playground from May 15, 2014 to June 2, 2014.

Large-scale sculptures by Korean artist Kim Gyung-Min will also be displayed during this period, allowing your family to indulge in a fun-filled day outdoors alongside inspiring art works.

200 square meters grass playground scene with weekend activities

From May 15 to June 2, 2014, there will be a 200-square-meter artificial green grass turf and reminiscing playground games such as hop-scotch, the roundabout and seesaws set up in the Forecourt, letting visitors take a little break from their stressful daily lives and immense themselves in 201405281518_8afb1d36_2moments of happiness and playfulness.

Giant 4-meter-tall figurative sculptures displayed at Harbour City

Harbour City and Gallery SUN Contemporary are proud to present the “Happy Moments Sculpture Exhibition at Harbour City from 15 May to 2 June 2014, featuring sculptural works by the renowned Korean artist Kim Gyung-Min. Inspired by the precious moments of family life, these colourful figurative sculptures are the signature works of Kim. A pair of 4-meter-tall giant sculptures will be displayed in the Ocean Terminal Forecourt, 10 desktop-size works will be showcased at Gallery by the Harbour, and 5 life-size works will be displayed in the Office Lobbies of The Gateway in Harbour City.

201405281518_1e26c4cd_2“Happy Moments” Sculpture Exhibition is the first solo exhibition of Kim Gyung-Min in Hong Kong which focuses on depicting everyday-life scenes of an ordinary family. The main highlight of the exhibition is the pair of giant 4-meter-tall sculptures, namely Good-morning!” and Grocery Shopping”, which respectively depict the scenes of a father going to work and a mother doing grocery shopping for her family. The sculptures will be standing in the Ocean Terminal Forecourt of Harbour City. Situated in the bustling open space, the two characters are made to remind everyone to enjoy everyday life with positive energy.

As a mother of 3 children and a wife, Kim Gyung-Min finds inspirations from everyday happenings at home, she creates sculptures showing a father on his way to work, a mother carrying her family on her shoulders and a family going to the beach. Through her new perspectives, she recreates those mundane moments that we pass by unnoticed. Reflecting the optimism of the artist, the figurative works emit positive energy and arouse genuine interest with her unique presentation and depiction of characteristics. Also, the facial expression and the body gesture of her sculptures create a feeling of deja vu, drawing the viewer further into the stories of the family presented at the exhibition space. Kim Gyung Min’s easily understandable sculptures evoke humor and a sense of universality that captures the eyes of contemporaries. The artist wishes to convey warmth and healing with her work to modern people who cannot easily open up to others. Her works also carry the message that a balance among family members is essential for family peace. Viewers even become a part of this story told by Kim Gyung Min’s artificial figures and naturally share the artist’s intention of pursuing happiness of daily life and little joys.
