George D. Szigeti, president and CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA), issued the following statement commenting on Hawaii’s visitor statistics for August 2016.

“Capped by these record results for August, Hawaii’s tourism industry realized its best summer ever. From June through August, Hawaii welcomed 2.4 million visitors who generated $4.16 billion in spending for businesses and communities statewide, and produced $442.7 million in state tax revenue.

“The credit for Hawaii’s success is shared by all of tourism’s stakeholders and industry partners, starting at the top with Governor Ige and our state lawmakers, to the businesses and employees who interact with our guests and make a summer vacation in Hawaii such an enjoyable experience.

“We are already looking ahead to next year, having put into motion at the Hawaii Tourism Conference this week the vision, plans and innovations that will deepen the reach of Hawaii’s brand appeal to travelers worldwide. Working collaboratively as an industry, perpetuating the Hawaiian culture, and preserving our natural resources are key to maintaining Hawaii’s record of success, especially with the relentless competition from other destinations to attract global travelers.”
