This morning Hawai‘i played host to Australia’s biggest breakfast television show, Sunrise, for the first leg of their USA mystery tour in conjunction with Flight Centre.

Viewers voted for the program to broadcast live across three different locations in the Aloha state: The Royal Hawaiian at Waikīkī Beach and Kualoa Ranch, both on the island of O‘ahu, and The Sheraton Kona in historic Kailua-Kona on the Island of Hawai‘i.

The main broadcast took place on Waikiki Beach with hosts David ‘Kochie’ Koch, Samantha Armytage, Natalie Barr and Mark Berretta, experiencing traditional Hawaiian hula and beachside Mai Tais, while Sam ‘Mac’ Macmillan took the weather to Kona to swim with giant manta rays and dine on authentic Hawaiian Poke.

The show’s entertainment segment, presented by Edwina Bartholomew, was broadcast live from Kualoa Ranch, where Hollywood blockbusters such as Jurassic Park and 50 First Dates were filmed.

“Hawai‘i is the perfect backdrop for a program like Sunrise,” said country head of Hawai‘i Tourism Oceania, Kerri Anderson.

“The destination is high on Australian travellers’ radars year round, and the natural beauty of the Aloha islands is something that really resonates with them.”

“The partnership with Sunrise and Flight Centre was a great opportunity to showcase a range of locations and experiences not only within Waikīkī, but also in other areas of O‘ahu and the neighbouring islands.”
