unnamed (27)Six Senses Spa at Six Senses Zighy Bay has embraced the changing season and launched a traditional Balinese Boreh for the winter season. Originally used by rice farmers in Bali at the end of a hard working day, the treatment is a centuries-old recipe used to relieve muscle aches, increase blood circulation and create relaxation by using heat therapy combined with exotic spices that stimulate the circulation and warm the skin with an aromatic blend.

The ingredients of this fragrant boreh (paste) are a mixture of powdered sandalwood, whole cloves, ginger, cinnamon, coriander seeds, rice powder, turmeric root and nutmeg which are ground in a mortar and pestle and combined with water to make a thick consistency. All herbs contribute their own benefits such as cloves that are traditionally used to ward off chills, cold and muscular numbness while ginger provides relief to arthritic joints, sore muscles and poor circulation.

The ritual starts with a four-hand massage from head to toe targeting knots and stiff muscles, the treatment also incorporates lymphatic drainage. Afterwards, the mixed paste is applied all over the body avoiding sensitive areas. The mixture is sealed in with a cloth wrap to keep the boreh in contact with the skin. The sensation generates a deep penetrating heat that melts away tension.

Guests can book this ancient remedy treatment at OMR 105 (USD 273) for a 60-minute session or OMR 125 (USD 325) for a 90-minute session. Spa bookings can be made prior to arrival at by email at: .
