A Qantas trans-Tasman flight to Melbourne turned back to Auckland about 30 minutes into the journey after a male passenger suffered a heart attack and cabin crew battled to save him.
Sadly, the best efforts of crew proved in vain. By the time paramedics met flight QF152 on the tarmac after it touched down back in Auckland, the man had died.
A nurse aboard the flight helped crew in their valiant attempts to to revive the man, the Daily Mail reported.
The flight, operated with a B737-800, left Auckland at 6.10am on Thursday, carrying 174 passengers.
After the tragic incident forced the plane to turn back, it refuelled in Auckland before taking off again for Melbourne.
No deals of the victim or his age were released.
