BIG4 Deniliquin Holiday Park played host to more than 18 families from HeartKids Victoria last weekend after the childhood heart disease support group won the whole holiday park for a weekend as part of a community initiative launched by BIG4 Deniliquin Holiday Park.

BIG4 Deniliquin 1More than 80 children and parents enjoyed a range of exciting activities provided by the park including river cruises on the park’s pontoon boat, craft activities, a pancake breakfast and BBQ sausage sizzle lunch as well as a twilight performance by singer/songwriter Michael Gorham followed by a movie.

In addition to the planned activities, the families enjoyed the use of the park’s giant jumping pillow, two large swimming pools, mini-golf course, tennis court and go karts.

The weekend was a result of an initiative launched by BIG4 Deniliquin Holiday Park earlier this year offering the whole park to large community groups free of charge. All they had to do was visit BIG4 Deniliquin Holiday Park’s Facebook page and submit the reason they needed a break to be in the running. BIG4 Deniliquin Holiday Park owners Frank and Lynda White, along with their business partners Bruce and Glenys Catto, were touched by the entry from Heartkids Victoria which saw them selected as the winners from more than 1,000 entries.

“We were honoured to host the HeartKids families and offer them with a fun weekend away from the day-to-day stress of living with Childhood Heart Disease,” said Frank.

“We loved meeting the families and would like to thank everyone that came along to share a special weekend with us,” he added.

Tracy Stanley, Support Manager for HeartKids Victoria and Tasmania said HeartKids said the families were very grateful for the opportunity to enjoy some much needed respite.

“Many of our families don’t get the opportunity to take a holiday so everyone really enjoyed taking a break and spending quality time together,” said Tracy.

“The pontoon boat and performance by Mick Gorham were particular highlights for the kids, it’s not every day you get your own private concert,” added Tracy

The riverfront holiday park offered the HeartKids guests a choice of 22 luxury cabins along with 40 powered caravan sites all situated on a beautiful riverfront setting.

Every day six babies are born with heart defects in Australia, more than 2,000 each year. It is estimated that 32,000 children under 18 years old are currently living with Childhood Heart Disease (CHD). HeartKids supports many of these children and their families through creating positive healing environments in and out of hospital, helping heart children improve their quality of life, helping provide cardiac services with the best possible cardiac equipment and facilities; and investing in research to improve outcomes for children affected by CHD.
