Helicopter on heli-ski trip crashes near Queenstown NZ

egtmedia59A man died and six others were injured when a helicopter taking a ski party on a heli-skiing trip out of Queenstown in New Zealand’s South Island crashed at the weekend.

All aboard are believed to be from New Zealand.

Harris Mountains Heliski issued the following statement on Saturday:

“A helicopter with five heli-skiers, a guide and pilot on board was involved in the accident on the northern face of Mount Alta in the Wanaka region. Flying and heli-ski conditions today were extremely good. Full details of the accident are still unknown.

“One person, a heli-ski client, was confirmed deceased at the scene. HMH wish to offer their deepest sympathy to the victim’s family and friends.

“Four injured persons were transported to Dunedin Hospital in serious but stable condition. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Two people were treated at Wanaka Medical Centre for minor injuries.

“HMH Emergencies Procedures were immediately activated at the time.  All emergency and support services were alerted as was the regulatory authorities.

“HMH had seven helicopters in the field today and some had flown to the crash site to provide immediate assistance.

“Police have secured the site and taken control.

“HMH will now assist and work with the relevant authorities to determine the cause of the accident, as well as with Police and Victim Support to assist those involved in the accident and their families.”
