Helloworld likely to become Helloworld Travel

March 1, 2017 Headline News 1 Comment Email Email

Helloworld is calling a general meeting with view to changing its name to add another word to the title, becoming Helloworld Travel.

The meeting is proposed for the morning of Friday 10 April, to be confirmed shortly.

The company, it seems, may finally be heeding the advice proffered by various people over the past four years or so, since many Jetset, Harvey World Travel, Travelscene American Express and Travelworld outlets came under the Helloworld banner from 2013 onwards.

Helloworld is sometimes stylised helloworld, spelled lower case, as in its logo.

A fair few critics questioned the name when it was launched, saying it needed the word ‘Travel’ after it, to establish in the public mind what the company dealt with.  They argued that Helloworld by itself could be anything: a phone dealer, a call centre, a florist or a dating agency.

Well-known and respected South Australian travel agent, Max Najar, was among those who said from the outset that the word “travel” was badly needed in the title.

Now it may happen, depending on the general meeting. The proposal is to change Helloworld Limited to Helloworld Travel Limited.

In a similar but unconnected move, a major Helloworld competitor, formerly titled Flight Centre Limited, changed its name in 2013 to Flight Centre Travel Group Limited.

I said from the outset on this forum that it was a bloody stupid name, more recognised as the catchphrase of John Laws, than anything to do with travel, and I couldn’t believe they actually paid someone to come up with this. Adding the Travel would at least show its a travel agency, but it doesn’t improve the Helloworld bit, which is at the same time both pretentious and vague.
