helloworld is delighted to announce that Chris Gardner, the subject of the bestselling book and heart-warming Hollywood blockbuster, The Pursuit of Happyness, will be a speaker at the much anticipated Owners & Manager’s Conference (OMC) in Los Angeles on 2 – 4 October, 2014.

image009Elizabeth Gaines, CEO of Helloworld Limited, said that delegates at helloworld’s first OMC will be amazed by Chris.

“We are delighted that Chris will be one of our keynote speakers at helloworld’s OMC this year.  His story is inspirational and we anticipate that his address will be a real standout,” said Gaines.

The amazing story of Gardner’s life, The Pursuit of Happyness, was published in May 2006, spent over twenty weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and has been translated into more than forty languages. Gardner was also the inspiration for, and an associate producer on, the movie version of The Pursuit of Happyness, which saw Will Smith star as Gardner.  Smith received nominations for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his performance.

Gardner’s childhood was marked by poverty, domestic violence, alcoholism, sexual abuse and family illiteracy. He published his autobiography out of a desire to shed light on these universal issues and show that they do not have to define you or your life.  Gardner became homeless when he could not make ends meet and he worked hard to turn his life around. During his time at Bear Stearns from 1983 to 1987, he became a top earner before leaving to establish his own brokerage firm.

Today, Gardner is involved in initiatives to address homelessness, assist families to stay intact and assist homeless men and women who are employed but still cannot get by. As a single parent for 25 years, Gardner has demonstrated his concern for the well-being of children through his work with, and on behalf of, organisations such as the National Fatherhood Initiative, the National Education Association Foundation and the International Rescue Committee.

“Gardner’s aim, through his speaking engagements and media projects, is to help others to achieve their full potential.  We are sure that he will inspire our helloworld delegates to take on challenges, aim high and succeed,” said Gaines.
