Here’s what you’d earn as a travel agent in the US

A travel employment firm based in the US has released preliminary data showing what corporate and leisure travel agents and managers there can expect to earn.

Hot Travel Jobs has advised that it’s about halfway through its employee/job-seeker survey. On the corporate agent side, the survey is “somewhat skewed in the favour of those that are 55 and older” as that group has so far formed the lion’s share of those responding. The travel agency workforce in the US tends to be older. See: Are travel agents approaching their use-by date?

So far in the latest American survey, the corporate travel manager salary average is USD 72,441 (AUD 93,584) per year. The average corporate agent salary is USD 61,882 (AUD 79,949) and lastly, the leisure agent average is USD 46,777 (AUD 60,437).

Last year the figures were rather different: corporate travel manager USD 107,131 (AUD 138,422); corporate travel agent USD 47,814 (AUD 61,780); leisure travel agent USD 46,101 (AUD 59,573).

Noting the difference from last year’s figures – and an apparent decline in corporate travel manager salaries – the compilers have cautioned that the numbers are preliminary, saying “we are confident that they will change” to some degree before the survey is complete.

The preliminary salary numbers come at a time when the US economy is slowly adding travel jobs, US Bureau of Labor Statistics reveal.
