Heron Island Launches Junior Ranges Program For 2016

Heron Island is excited to once again welcome its younger guests these school holidays, with its popular Junior Rangers program back for another season. The Junior Rangers and Junior Rangers Plus Programs provide children with an exciting, educational and once in a lifetime experience exploring the magical Great Barrier Reef.


Designed to nurture a sense of nature-based exploration and foster a strong sense of environmental awareness, the Junior Rangers Program entertains young inquisitive minds, whilst ensuring parents enjoy a relaxing island getaway.

Available for youngsters ages between 7-12 years, the Junior Rangers Program sees its participants undertake a range of fun and educational island-based activities which include reef walks, bird watching and beachcombing – even the opportunity to design and run their own ‘resort island’!

Developed by Heron island’s experiences team of marine biologists and naturalist guides, both programs offer heron’s school-aged guests hours of educational fun, before encouraging them to continue the experience at home with a Junior Rangers Workbook and a range of embroidered badges provided as souvenirs of the island adventures.

Priced at just $20 per child per session, the Junior Rangers Program operates for 1.5 hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Alternatively, Heron Island offers families who stay during the school holiday season the opportunity to book children into the Junior Rangers Plus Program, which is priced at $75 per child, per session, $140 for two children or $200 for the three children. Te Plus program occupies its participants for 4.5 hours a day with additional activity offerings, movies and a delicious meal.

“The Junior Rangers program has always been a huge hit with Australian kids,” says general Manager of Heron Island, Sandy McFeeters.

“It’s an opportunity for them to get up close with Heron’s diverse marine and wildlife, all while learning important environmental care lessons alongside their fellow rangers,” McFeeters added.
