The global Extreme Sailing Series™ presented by Land Rover is now underway in the Northern Hemisphere with the first Acts of the Series in Muscat in Oman and Qingdoa in China with great success. Enroute to Sydney for the final Act from 8-11 December this year, Series racing will be held in Cardiff, Hamburg, St Petersburg, Istanbul and Lisbon.
The Extreme Sailing Series™ provides stadium racing on high speed GC32 hydrofoiling catamarans, around short courses close to spectators on the shore, in iconic city centre locations around the world.
The Extreme Sailing Series in Sydney presents an exciting possibility for local sailors to test their sailing skills against the world’s best with leading edge technology by way of a wild card entry. This opportunity is part of the host venue sponsorship package which includes access to a variety of on-water experiences including guest sailing spots during racing, corporate sailing before and after the races, and a VIP hospitality experience that is second to none. The thrill of high speed sailing will be a once in a lifetime experience for those fortunate to have this opportunity. There are other sponsorship opportunities available.
Sydney Harbour will be a magnificent backdrop for Act 8, the final Act of the Series, where the Series winner will be crowned. Each day several races will be held in Farm Cove between Sydney Opera House, Fort Denison and Mrs Macquarie’s Point.
The Sydney Harbour foreshore will provide spectators with top viewing of thrilling catamaran racing by eight professional teams that include Olympians and world champions such as multiple gold medallists and world champions Roman Hagara and Hans Peter Steinacher sailing for Team Red Bull from Austria. The GC 32 is a superlight high speed catamaran with foils that enable the hulls to spectacularly fly clear of the water.
The Extreme Sailing Series™, now in its 10th year, is an ISAF Special Event. Entry to the event and the Race Village on Mrs Macquarie’s Point is free, with many spectacular vantage points and entertainment for the whole family.
Local media partners, Fox Sports and Smooth FM will provide live coverage of the racing and on-shore activities. Around 25,000 spectators are expected to attend, and the event will broadcast around the globe by 15 international TV channels.
