Highlights in HK during INTERNATIONAL FIGHT WEEK : Leader of HK’s MMA Combat Sports IMPI WORLD SERIES ASIA 4 ending with New Champions being crowned on 20th August 2016
During INTERNATIONAL FIGHT WEEK on August 20th, 2016, IMPI World Series, HK’s Largest Combat Sport League and Original MMA Caged Fighting in Hong Kong founded by International Mixed Martial Art Superstar VUSI “The Cheetah” Colossa, hosted the unforgettable IMPI World Series Asia 4 at Southorn Indoor Stadium in Wan Chai. Thanks to Official Partners Harley-Davidson of Hong Kong and South African Airways, scores of combat sport enthusiasts patiently waited to participate in International Fight Week and see 10 remarkable matches between both GLOBAL and HONG KONG MMA fighters for over four hours of head-to-head fighting filled with broken bones, bloodied noses, and battle scars. The largest combat sport event of the year saw an attendance of over 1,000 guests including billionaires and celebrities like Cecil Chao and Shawn Yue, the event was unlike any other for the Hong Kong combat sport community.
Bringing fighters together from around the world, the star highlight of the evening was Fight #9 when South African fighter, Founder & CEO of IMPI, Vusi “THE CHEETAH” Colossa, stepped into a match for the ultimate showdown against Brazilian submission specialist Marcelo Tenorio, who has a 6-1 fighting record, with only 3 days notice to fight! It was a battle between the greats with on one side The Cheetah from South Africa, having claimed over 9 international awards to his name and Founder & CEO of IMPI, and on the other side Marcelo Tenorio from Brazil, who has over 6 international awards to his and over 23 years of combat sports history. An open-weight match up, after twelve long minutes, THE CHEETAH sealed the deal during Round 3 at the two minute thirty-two second mark, he earned a technical knockout (“TKO”) leaving the audience speechless and chanting “CHEETAH! CHEETAH!”
While IMPI World Series Asia 4 was a global event with internationally acclaimed fighters, Hong Kong was represented with Henry Tong, a featherweight MMA fighter with the quintessential comeback story of a lost street kid who found redemption in combat sports. Discovering martial arts as a teen, Henry was best known for being that “street kid who always got into trouble” and found MMA as a way to escape. Henry gave one of the best performances of his life against Redd Baluyos from the Philippines and used his strongest weapon, striking, and his greatest motivation as a young street kid to win by unanimous decision. Hong Kong continued its winning streak during Fight 4, a White Collar MMA fight between Hong Kong representative Tony Chu andAustralian Fighter Nathan Lesichke, which ended with Tony winning via submission by rear naked choke.
The first professional female MMA match in HK that IMPI is known for hosting caused even more hair raising suspense in Fight 7 which saw FilipinaRamona Pascua fight Malaysian Ella Tang. A true HK Girl, Ramona discovered Muay Thai at just 15 years old and never looked back. Ramona is also a world traveler for her fighting with an Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu Jitsu Championship under her belt where she earned gold in her weight class.Ella has been making her mark in combat sports for thirteen years and has been awarded multiple awards including Sanshou Asia Games Bronze Medalist 2012. After a long match between these two incredible fighters, Ramona won Ella over with a TKO (doctor stoppage) at the fifth minute of Round 2.
IMPI World Series 5 will be held on December 2, 2016 at Southorn Indoor Stadium in Wan Chai and is one of over 10 more global events to come in the 18 months.
