On Friday July 29, Hilton Durbanplayed host to 67 Learners from Inanda and Kwa Mashu in support of 67 Minutes for Mandela Day in partnership with Project Enza.
Project Enza (“Doers”) was started by Siyabonga & Thandekile Nhleko in 2010 in order to educate youth about opportunities in the tourism & hospitality industry.
Creating opportunities is a key pillar of Travel with Purpose, Hilton Worldwide’s corporate responsibility strategy, and Hilton Durban has partnered with Project Enza since 2014. The partnership is also a part of Hilton Worldwide’s Open Doors commitment, which aims to positively impact at least one million young people by 2019 and better prepare them to reach their full potential. Project Enza works with Hilton Durban during the annual [email protected] event in May, Mandela Day in July and World Tourism Day in September.
This year the aim was to impact 67 learners in 67 minutes for Mandela Day. Learners were given a personal introduction to Hilton Durban by General Manager, Markus Fritz and Cluster HR Manager for South Africa Peter Thomas, followed by a Q&A session. Learners were then taken on a property tour to see a guest room overlooking Durban Beachfront and the harbor, and given an opportunity to engage with learners currently placed with Hilton Durban. These learners are from various universities and are completing a 12 month internship through CATHSSETA.
At the end of the interactive session, learners were given an opportunity to provide feedback on how they benefited from the experience, how it helped them better understand the subject of tourism and which area of the business they foresee themselves working in one day.
