Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel & Conference Center Announces Its Senior Management Team

Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel & Conference Center, scheduled to open in Sisli, Istanbul, in early 2014, today announced its senior management team.

Seven new appointments have been made by General Manager Remco Norden to form an experienced senior team leading sales, hotel and staff management, food and beverage operations, finance and business development. The team includes professionals from within Hilton Worldwide as well as top local talent. They are Aykut Korkmaz, Baris Agacbuken, Murat Kaplan, Vuslat Sivri, Doris Van Der Geeten, Yannis Manikis and Tevfik Umurhan.1Picture1_FP

Returning to Turkey to join the team are Aykut Korkmaz as hotel manager and Baris Agacbuken as head of conference services.

Aykut Korkmaz has spent the last seven years in London, most recently as hotel manager for Hilton London Heathrow Airport. He started his career at the former Hilton Konya where he was director of operations from 2002 to 2003. He then moved to Egypt as director of operations at Hilton Sharm Waterfalls Resort before moving to London for the opening of Hilton London Tower Bridge.

Baris Agacbuken moves back to Istanbul from Washington D.C. where he was head of convention services for two years at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. This appointment also marks a return to Hilton Worldwide for Agacbuken as he was the senior events manager for Washington Hilton from 2009 to 2011 and before that he was event manager for two years at Hilton McLean Tysons Corner in Virginia, U.S. In his new role, Agacbuken will be heading up Istanbul’s largest conference center as Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel & Conference Center has two ballrooms, more than 30 meeting rooms, 829 bedrooms and 85 suites of up to 500 square metres.

Murat Kaplan, who has 15 years of experience in the hospitality industry, joins as head of food & beverage from the Wyndham Istanbul Kalamis Marina, where he held a similar role.

Before that he was in charge of food and beverage operations with Hyatt Hotels in Baku. Working alongside Kaplan is Executive Chef Yannis Manikis who joins the team after six years as the award-winning chef at Hilton Athens. Yannis is a Canadian-European and specializes in creative menu development with an eastern flavour. He is from a family of restaurateurs and started his career at the Michelin Star restaurant L’Auberge. He studied at the Riverside Culinary Institute in Montreal and has worked in some of Montreal’s finest restaurant establishments including Toqué, a member of Relais & Châteaux with Five Diamond Awards from the Canadian CAA.

Human resources will fall under the skilful management of Vuslat Sivri who was previously the director of human resources at the Divan Istanbul and Divan Istanbul City. Her 12 years experience in Istanbul includes human resources roles with the Pera Palace and four years with the Four Seasons hotel, Istanbul.

Tevfik Umurhan will take on the role of director of sales, having been promoted from his former position as deputy director of sales at Hilton Worldwide responsible for Conrad Istanbul, Hilton Istanbul and Hilton ParkSA Istanbul. Urmurhan has worked for Hilton Worldwide in Istanbul for six years and before that spent six years in a sales role with other hotels in Turkey.

Finally, Doris Van Der Geeten joins as director of business development from Hilton Warsaw Hotel and Convention Centre where she worked from December 2011, having spent the four previous years at Hilton Amsterdam. She started her hotel career as a management trainee at the Baltschug Kempinski hotel in Moscow in July 2001.

General Manager Remco Norden said, “I am delighted to have such a strong management team for this new hotel which will be a leading example in terms of conference and hotel facilities in Turkey. We have selected from the best candidates both locally and within Hilton Worldwide, and we are committed to team member career progression and development.”

Norden himself celebrates 20 years working within Hilton Worldwide in various management positions.

Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel & Conference Center is set to become Istanbul’s largest hotel by bedrooms and event space and will occupy a prime location in the city as part of a new visitor hub at the former Bomonti Beer Factory site. This heritage site will provide entertainment, dining and retail facilities as well as a museum and arts center. There will also be a destination eforea: spa at Hilton which will offer 14 treatment rooms, 1,400 sqm fitness and an indoor/outdoor pool with bar. Additionally, there will be an executive lounge and bars and restaurants on the 34th floor with a 360 degree view of the Bosphorus and the city.
