Hilton Mandalay hosted its first annual 6-kilometres-long Charity Run under the #WashUpAbuse campaign. The charity run was part of Hilton’s global week of service which took place from 23 to 30 July. Hilton Global Week of Service is an annual celebration of community engagement efforts to support Travel with Purpose which is Hilton Worldwide’s corporate commitment to provide shared value to its business and communities.

Co-sponsored by OWAY, Mandalar Hospital and Coca-cola, the charity run was organised together with Mandalay Sport and Physical Education Department. It took place on 15 July between 6:00 to 7:00am along the moat walk from 26th street and finished at Hilton Mandalay. The first three to finish the race received gift vouchers from the hotel.

Helen Jacobe, Cluster General Manager of Hilton Myanmar said, “We are delighted to host #WashUpAbuse campaign’s first annual charity run in Mandalay. The campaign aims to raise awareness of workplace abuse in Myanmar. This awareness campaign will hopefully end the abuse, particularly against women, in the workplace everywhere.”

#WashUpAbuse campaign was started in February 2018 to raise funds for the medical fees of an acid burn victim who was injured while working at a garment store.  Myanmar Women’s Association led the fund-raising for her and other victims of physically or sexually abuse and injuries.

The charity run drew 140 people including Hilton team members, hotel guests and Mandalay residents; and raised a total of 1,280,350 Kyats. All the proceeds were donated to Myanmar Women’s Association.
