Hilton Worldwide Partners with The Smith Family to Offer Work Experience to Over 100 Disadvantaged Youths
Hilton Worldwide has partnered with national children’s education charity The Smith Family in Australia, as part of the [email protected] Live: Youth in Hospitality Month. The partnership, ‘Work Inspiration’, will see eight Hilton Worldwide hotels in Australia provide the opportunity for over 100 disadvantaged youths to experience working at a Hilton hotel over the month of May.
Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics show that youth joblessness has reached its highest peak since 1998, with 14.2 per cent of 15 to 24 year-olds looking for work and one in five 15 to 19 year-olds unemployed, making programs such as Work Inspiration more important than ever.
Hilton Worldwide operates 14 hotels across Australia where, on average, 29% of the workforce is under 25. Through Work Inspiration, Hilton seeks to ensure all job seekers, including youth, have access to the best available information and are aware of the opportunities the industry provides.
Work Inspiration offers engagement between Hilton team members and young Australians in a variety of ways, including:
– Providing a unique opportunity for staff to be a part of the participant’s growth throughout the program and engage in informative and meaningful career conversations.
– Allowing participants to explore their interests and strengths as well as building communication and teamwork skills with each other and hotel team members.
– Presenting groups of young Australians the experience of working in a hotel and going behind the scenes to see the variety of career opportunities available when working at a Hilton property.
– Offering an experience where young people can gain an awareness of work ethic and a new confidence for a future career.
Hilton Sydney, Hilton Adelaide, Hilton Surfers Paradise and Hilton Melbourne South Wharf hosted a total of 65 disadvantaged youths for work placement from May 4 to 6. Hilton Cairns, DoubleTree by Hilton Cairns, Hilton Brisbane and DoubleTree by Hilton Alice Springs will host another 50 young people from May 11 to 13.
