Himalayan Schoolies Offers an Alternative to The Typical Drinking and Brawls

Schoolies are a rite of passage for many students in Australia at the end of Year 12. Offering a week of freedom after a period of intensive studying, the schoolies break provides a chance to kick back and take it easy. However, a new travel firm is looking to give the way we view schoolies a bit of a reboot.

Himalayan Schoolies offers experience-led, adventure-filled schoolies holidays to students aged typically between 17-18 years old – and is hopeful their ethos of adventure over hedonism will strike a chord with this age group.

Typical schoolies trips often reported in the press don’t show students in the best light – and instead place more emphasis on spending their holidays drinking and clubbing. Instead, a Himalayan Schoolies tour is different. They emphasize that this is where life truly begins after school ends – and suggest a new, more engaged way of looking at the traditional schoolies break.

The trips give students a chance to experience new cultures by travelling and volunteering among them, helping those most in need. There are plenty more ways for school leavers to break out of their comfort zones, too – with tons of adrenaline-fueled activities on offer such as paragliding, ziplining and bungy jumping. Of course the activities aren’t complete without a trek.

“We see such a massive positive change in the Schoolies at the end of the trip, they can take on anything”, says Matthew Eakin, Founder of Himalayan Schoolies. “We want to encourage them to get up off the sofa, break out of their shell and build some new skills which will set them up for getting the best out of life. We want to help them gain more confidence and get a new perspective on the world. They’ll never have another trip like it – our schoolies trips really are once in a lifetime”
