Your journey begins in Atlanta, Georgia on 28 September 2019, where you will enjoy 2 nights discovering one of the jewels of the southern United States. Treat yourself to a tour of a city steeped in history and learn about one of its most famous residents, Margaret Mitchell, author of the epic historical novel, Gone with the Wind; visit the Stately Oaks Plantation, the inspiration for the book’s Tara estate; and drop into the Road to Tara Museum, with its impressive collection of memorabilia from the Gone with the Wind movie.

From Atlanta, you’ll travel west to Charleston in South Carolina, taking in a visit to Augusta, home to the world-famous Masters Golf Tournament, along the way. Spend several days exploring the perfectly preserved historic district of the United States’ oldest city and take a trip to nearby historic Boone Hall Plantation, frequently featured in film and television including the acclaimed North and South mini-series.

As your journey heads further south, stroll through the leafy streets of Beaufort, South Carolina’s second oldest city, with its impressive antebellum architecture, which has provided the backdrop to myriad Hollywood movies including Forrest Gump; and immerse yourself in the charming historic district of Georgia’s Savannah with its tree-shaded squares and thriving cafés and restaurant scene.

Next stop is the sunshine state of Florida and a chance to admire the exquisite Spanish colonial architecture of St Augustine, the gentle hills of Tallahassee and sandy shorelines of Pensacola, founded in 1599 by Spanish colonists. Your tour concludes in the celebrated Louisiana city of New Orleans, the birthplace of jazz. With its unique blend of Spanish, French, Caribbean, African and Anglo-Saxon influences, New Orleans offers up a truly sensory experience. Explore the famous Louisiana Plantations, savour delicious Creole cuisine or indulge in a little retail therapy at the many tempting galleries and shops along Royal Street.
