The flight is ready for take-off, the captain is giving weather information about the destination, and a policeman is dragging a woman by the arms down the aisle as she lies face-up on the floor. It’s all here in a strange video that has been termed bizarre and disturbing.
The woman, who Detroit Metro Airport police dragged off a Delta Air Lines flight earlier this week, may face criminal charges for having ignored boarding procedures, airport authorities told the Huffington Post.
Travel blogger René deLambert posted a two-minute clip on YouTube showing police gathering around the unidentified woman, then physically hauling her off the morning flight from Detroit to San Diego, California.
The woman does not move and remains quiet as an officer drags her down the aisle by her arms, rather as someone might haul a bag of cement across a building site.
The reaction of other passengers is generally amusement. Some can be heard laughing, with expressions like “oh my God” and “that’s crazy”.
The Huffington Post quoted airport spokesman Brian Lassaline saying that Delta asked airport police for help with a passenger “who would not comply with boarding and baggage check procedures” at the gate.
Delta told the woman she could not remain on the aircraft.
“Despite repeated requests by officers, the woman refused to leave the aircraft and had to be removed,” Lassaline told the outlet, adding that charges were pending.
