HITEC 2014 Wrap-up: Hotel Operators Rushing to the Cloud for Property Management Software

HITEC 2014 concludes with the recurring theme of cloud services and how it is revolutionizing the hotel industry. Several keynotes focused specifically on case studies that have been done demonstrating the industry is moving ever more quickly to cloud and subscription based services.

Scott Barneson, senior manager of Amazon Web Services, one of the main speakers at HITEC 2014 discussed the new adoption trends in the hospitality industry. “As options for how to use the cloud, such as hybrid deployments and subscription models continue to increase in variety and number, the question is no longer should we move to the cloud, but rather how should we move to the cloud to give our organization the greatest competitive edge” commented Barneson.

All reports revealed the same basic fact: cloud computing has changed the technological landscape. The technological method, partially because of its catchy title, is viewed by many as a trend. However, its growth has become so explosive that the field is now beyond the bounds of trendiness. It’s really become a computing revolution.

“We have seen a similar trend at Frontdesk Anywhere with monthly users growing by over 90% since January” stated Frontdesk Anywhere CEO and co-founder Thomas Lyle. “Companies like that they can now have an entire ecosystem of tightly integrated software to support their business.”

Companies such as CRS provider InnLink, Channel Manager SiteMinder and revenue management service PriceMatch have all been integrated into Frontdesk Anywhere. Several hotel on premise services have also been integrated into the service. “The ecosystem is a scalable advantage that cloud PMS providers such as ourselves can offer to our customers” stated Lyle.

This year’s HITEC is another showcase of new trends in the cloud computing and new technologies for the hospitality industry.
