HomeAway, the world leader in vacation rentals, has inked an official partnership with Setouchi Brand Corporation, part of the largest regional Destination Management Organizations (DMO) in Japan, to encourage inbound foreign travelers to visit the Setouchi area, also known as the Seto Inland Sea. As part of the collaboration, travelers can book their accommodation through HomeAway in the area, which includes seven prefectures – Ehime, Hiroshima, Hyogo, Kagawa, Okayama, Tokushima and Yamaguchi. The first listings involving historic properties, over 100 years old, in Uchiko-town, Ehime prefecture: Machiya-Bessou Cocoro and Hotel Cocoro: Kura, have already been made available for booking on HomeAway.

Additional properties will progressively be made available on HomeAway and by 2021, Setouchi DMO aims to have revitalized 100 historic properties for accommodation. In turn, HomeAway will help to raise awareness of Setouchi’s attractions and offerings by attracting foreign travelers to the Setouchi region, known for its beautiful world heritage sites, sake breweries and Japan’s largest national park.

“Given HomeAway and its parent company Expedia’s strong presence internationally, we are confident that our partnership will attract many foreign travelers to visit the Setouchi region. Looking ahead towards the future, we will also revitalize the properties based on customer needs and preferences, to create a great experience for all travelers visiting the Setouchi region with HomeAway,“ said Yo Kimura, spokesperson for the Setouchi DMO.

“Japan is one of HomeAway’s top markets in Asia, and has always been a very popular travel destination. The Setouchi area in particular has so much to offer travelers, and staying in a traditional Japanese house provides a great cultural experience for families and groups of friends. We are excited about this partnership, and look forward to introducing our global travelers to the stunning Setouchi region, when they book a unique property through HomeAway,” said Prashant Kirtane, Vice President, HomeAway Asia.
