Hong Kong Movie Star Carina Lau Brings Chinese Glamour To Vinexpo Bordeaux 2015

Hong Kong film star, Carina Lau,is bringing a touch of Chinese glamour to Vinexpo 2015 in Bordeaux, headlining a diverse programme of intriguing events at the world’s premier wine & spirits exhibition from June 14-18, 2015. veteran celebrity who shot to fame with her ‘girl next door’ roles in the 1980s has a starring role on a completely different stage in A Romance between Wine & Cinema’– launching her new personalised range of Bordeaux wines.

Renowned Hong Kong-based Master of Wine,Jeannie Cho LeeMWis meanwhile conducting a LE PAN vertical tasting of a top Bordeaux producer. LE PAN is a new international magazine and website from Hong Kong which is set to become a leading voice in the world of fine wine. Launching at Vinexpo Bordeaux 2015 on Monday, June 15, the magazine will be available in two editions, English and Chinese. Launch parties will follow in Europe, North America and Asia. LE PAN will be organizing tastings on topics such as “Oregon’s Pinot Noir and Terroir: Is the Soil in the Wine? By Doug Frost MS MW”, and “Champagne Krug: Uniquement Prestige by Olivier Krug & Charles Curtis MW” etc. Guests can visit LE PAN at Stand AB329, Hall 1 (near the Press Centre and Hall 3 entrance).

Meanwhile, RVF France / RVF China will acknowledge China’s fast-improving reputation on the global wine stage with the ‘Chinese Wine Awards’ and a Chinese wine tasting.

On the last day of Vinexpo Bordeaux 2015 (Thursday, June 18), ‘Best Sommelier of the World’ winner Paolo Basso presents the irresistible ultimate ‘Vinexpo Challenge’.  Guests who would like to sharpen their palates and blind-taste like the world’s leading sommelier will compete in blind-tasting a superb selection of fine wines. The winner of the Vinexpo Challenge will receive a jeroboam of Bollinger Rosé to prolong their “Taste the Unexpected” experience at home. Registration is required at the following link:

A discussion and demonstration on pairing port wine with chocolate and cheese is also set to fascinate foodies.

A series of seminars ‘Wine & Myths’ looks back at the history of wine, exploding a few myths along the way, with historical interest extending to ‘Leonardo’s Vineyard’, a journey through Italian art discovering wine in paintings and mosaics.

Meanwhile, Japanese sake which is enjoying increased popularity worldwide will feature in a tasting of ‘Six Japanese Sakes’spotlighting some of the country’s leading brands.

In total, the Vinexpo Academy will host over 90 special events from top-flight talks to tastingswith internationally renowned sommeliers, oenologists, economists and entrepreneurs.

Tastings of wines from around the globe extend to wines from Georgia and China, and regions such as Alsace, Provence, Tuscany, the Douro, Burgundy, Napa Valley and Bordeaux.

Talks will focus on subjects as diverse as “Inside the US wine market”, moderated by Tom Matthews, editor of Wine Spectator, with key players such as Annette Alvarez from Costco, Mel Dick from Southern Wine and Spirits of America, Helen Mackey from Ruth’s Chris Steak Houses, Michael Mondavi from Folio Fine Wine Partners, Stephen Rust from Diageo Chateau & Estate, and David Trone from Total Wine & More discussing the market’s prospects with ideas on strategies for entering it.

The African market will also be the topic of a major talk by experts from this part of the globe, including Pierre Castel.

Acknowledging the rising influence of the internet and social media, a new concept called #DigiZonewill host short interactive conferences on diverse topics from latest wine applications and tastings of wines from indigenous grape varieties to Vinocamp presenting the French vino digital sphere; Greg Lambrecht from Coravin speaking about social media and crisis management; DJ Frédéric Beneix (Wine4Melomanes) and the Grenache association pairing wine and music; and Napa Valley Vintners organising a Taste N Tweet session.

This year Vinexpo Bordeaux 2015 will introduce a brand new-look food experience as it considers the hospitality and food & beverage industry to be an essential partner of the wine and spirits trade. There will be a wide variety of restaurants that are themed by cuisines from different countries, as well as lighter options from corners and food trucks. The famous French food guide Gault & Millauis also organising a series of wine and food pairing workshops with renowned chefs and sommeliers demonstrating how to pair the various textures, flavours and aromas of different wines and foods.

Vinexpo Bordeaux will also unveil the “ultimate, unrivalled cocktail bar”, SPIRITUAL, after its successful launch at last year’s Vinexpo Asia-Pacific 2014 in Hong Kong. The concept bar will feature a stylish and comfortable bar dedicated to featuring a wide selection of spirits. In partnership with the International Bartenders’ Association (IBA) and The Spirits Business magazine, bar events will be organised every day by professional barmen and talented mixologists to call attention to various brands. All available at Hall 3.

Almost 48,000 visitors from more than 120 nationalities are expected at the Bordeaux Exhibition Centre.
