The Tourism Accommodation Association (TAA) and the Australian hotel industry came together at the InterContinental Sydney last week for the inaugural Hotel Career Expo – a joint bipartisan effort to counter the industry’s challenges with talent attraction and retention.

This was a significant event with its key purpose to align as one industry and promote hotel careers as a credible and long term option across a multiple of disciplines to both secondary and tertiary students. IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group), along with most major hotel groups such as Accor, Starwood and Hilton, sponsored the event together with the NSW Government, Austrade, Hostplus and TAA.
“The industry needs to attract candidates studying Business, Finance, Engineering and Marketing degrees who wouldn’t immediately look at the Hospitality industry as a career option,” said IHG’s Senior Director Human Resources, Lynda Ugarte.
“Other industries actively connect with students in these disciplines and the Expo was a way to engage and share the exciting global opportunities available in hotel and hospitality careers,” she said.
