Hotel design boo-boo displays guests using the loo

egtmedia59Some high-rise hotels and nightclubs are known for toilets offering splendid panoramic views – there are lists online of the best. One new hotel, however, has hit the headlines for an altogether different reason: a design flaw in its restaurant lets passers-by on the streets below look up and see patrons using the loo.

The glitch affecting the 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin (odd choice of name) is apparently a genuine design error rather than a publicity stunt.   Loo with view

The architect who designed the Monkey Bar restaurant in the hotel decided to place the toilets next to the floor-to-ceiling windows. That might work if you’re on the top floor of some skyscraper, but the Berlin hotel is just 10 storeys tall.

You can see the Berlin Zoo from the hotel, but sharp-eyed pedestrians below aim cameras at different angles to capture snaps of toilet users. The pics are busily whizzing round the blogosphere and twittersphere. The hotel has responded by putting up notices in the toilet saying: “Please be careful, not only the monkeys are watching”, UK Metro reports.

It doesn’t seem a challenging problem to solve – a curtain, or a coat of paint, a metre above floor level would work, involving minimum cost and labour. I’ll fix it for them myself if they fly me there and pay me a AUD 5000 consultancy fee.
