The video clips show the scene – a blaze burns out of control on the roof of the Bellagio, the luxury resort hotel and casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada.
The clips capture a very Vegas fire – sirens, strolling pedestrians gathering to watch, much neon, a hint of Frank Sinatra in the background. While it looked spectacular, damage was confined to an exterior wall of the north retail wing of the building.
Firefighters blamed a faulty light fixture, and although they described the blaze as “a significant fire”, they extinguished it in 19 minutes.
The following very short (18-second) clip has flames and sirens – and isn’t that Frank Sinatra crooning there?
Another vid is shot from a car cruising down the Strip.
Damage was estimated at USD 450,000.
Bellagio is is owned and operated by MGM Resorts International. A 3.2-hectare articficial lake lies between the building and the Strip, which houses the Fountains of Bellagio, a large dancing water fountain synchronised to music.
