One of Queenstown’s finest boutique hotels is gearing up to offer visiting athletes a ‘marathon weekend’ to remember.

Hotel St Moritz is helping guests running the 42km, 21km and 10km distances in this year’s Air New Zealand Queenstown International Marathon to fuel and recover for race day, Saturday 19 November 2016.

All runners staying at the unique boutique hotel will receive a race pack to help boost energy levels along the way. The pack includes sugar-boosting jet plane jelly sweets and post-race homemade energising trail nut mix — and there’s even an iconic St Moritz temporary marathon tattoo to help ‘get in the spirit’.

Marathon runners can enjoy a quality night’s sleep at Hotel St Moritz

Before the event, award-winning restaurant Lombardi will lay on the perfect carb-loaded runner’s dinner. The restaurant’s signature lasagna dish is the best seller on the night, designed to boost energy for race day and aid fast recovery, and there’s a range of other mouthwatering dishes also on offer.

To ensure runners are on track for their early morning start, the property’s Sofitel MyBed luxury bedding will help ensure a quality night’s sleep and well-rested stay.

The morning after the marathon, everyone’s a winner with a healthy buffet breakfast loaded with fresh fruits for smoothies, including an extra supply of bananas and blueberries for muscle repair. Greek yoghurt and the hotel’s tasty homemade sourdough bread is also on the menu.

Previous half-marathon runner herself, Hotel St Moritz General Manager Jo Finnigan said the charming property was the “perfect place” for runners to soak up the energy emanating from the spectacular landscape.

“Each year we’re delighted to host runners from all around New Zealand and further afield to compete in this very special event,” she said.

“We understand the planning that goes into race day, and our team’s here to ‘do our bit’ to ensure runners are in optimum form before and after the race.

“We’ve even got our marketing executive Ruth, concierge Joaquim and housekeeping supervisor Gorge taking part this year, so we’ll be there cheering everyone on.

“Our property is the ideal spot for a bit of post-race recovery – whether that needs a glass of stunning Central Otago pinot noir, a ‘chill-out’ bath with ice bags provided, or a long hot soak in our hot tub garden.”

A mobile massage service will operate from the hotel to rub down those sore legs, along with yoga aficionados ensuring guests stretch to help aid recovery.

The hotel guest who runs the fastest time on the day will be duly rewarded with a bottle of the hotel’s house champagne Veuve Cliquot to celebrate their truly significant achievement.

“It’s simply a pleasure to care for our marathon guests, and continue to make their experience memorable once they’ve picked up their hard-earned medals,” said Ms Finnigan.

Runners will be in good hands — Hotel St Moritz recently took home the Air New Zealand Excellence in Hospitality and Accommodation Award at the 2016 Westpac Queenstown Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.
