Hoteliers Head To Hobart For Best Western Australasia Convention

Destination marketing, hotel loyalty programs and accommodation management will be hot topics for Best Western hoteliers attending the 2014 Best Western Australasia Convention held from 23 to 27 August in Hobart, Tasmania.

Running over five days atBEST WESTERN Hobart, located on Bathurst Street in Hobart’s CBD, up to 180 delegates will attend a series of inspiring unnamed (17)presentations and workshops addressing the latest developments in revenue management, property design, sales and marketing and customer care.

More than 30 industry suppliers, including gold sponsor Telstra, will join hoteliers in Australia’s most southern state to present their products and services at trade shows and off-site meetings during the event.

Rob Anderson, Best Western Australasia’s Chief Executive estimates this year’s convention will deliver a $500,000 boost to the Tasmanian economy, with plenty of sightseeing weaved into the five-day programme.

“This is the only major forum each year where our members can join together in one place and learn about what’s happening in the industry and the new ways they can help boost their business profitability.

“But it’s not all work – we’ve got some exciting trips planned including a whole day wine tasting and touring Bruny Island or Port Arthur, which when you’re running a hotel fulltime, is a rare holiday treat. This will be a great experience for those who haven’t been to Tasmania before,” he said.

unnamed (18)On the fifth day, a panel including industry figures from Tourism Australia, TripAdvisor and Hooroo.com will discuss the hottest topics in destination marketing. Moderated by Bruce Piper, Managing Editor of Travel Daily, the discussion titled ‘Research to Review – Why Guests Stay’, will delve into how the tourism sector works together to drive consumer behaviour, from destination research to making the final booking.

The 140-room BEST WESTERN Hobart joined the Australasian affiliate of the World’s Biggest Hotel Family in August 2013, and has since received extensive refurbishments to its eight meeting and event spaces. The largest, the Goulburn Room, holds 300 people for theatre and banquet style events and now includes modern AV facilities, projectors and ergonomic furniture to comfortably host Best Western Australasia’s largest industry event just 12 months after joining the group.

Winners of the 2014 Best Western Australasia Awards for Excellence will be announced at a stunning gala dinner on the final evening with a silent auction running in tandem to raise funds for Best Western’s charity partner, World Vision.
