Hotelogix Extends its ‘Switch to Cloud’ Campaign to Education in Hospitality via Caribtek, in Jamaica

This seminar is a part of Hotelogix’ ‘Switch to Cloud’ campaign for empowering small and medium size hotels across the world to adopt and leverage the benefits of cloud based PMS. The session, conducted by the director of Caribtek, Mr. Shawn Wenzel, focused on the potential of cloud based Property Management Solutions for the hospitality industry (where he addressed the students).

Mr. Wenzel took the students through the session by conducting a deep dive comparison of a Hotelogix cloud based PMS versus a legacy system. At face value, both the solutions seemed to be quite similar since both include an integrated POS system – however, the primary differences were ease of use, flexible licensing models and the unique security measures that Hotelogix’ cloud based solution offered.

One of the most prominent differences that Shawn spoke about was the total cost of ownership (TCO) between a cloud based solution – and a legacy system. Cloud based solutions like Hotelogix are much more cost efficient; they bring in recurrent cost savings year on year. With Cloud based systems, hotel’s don’t require IT infrastructure like extra servers and server software. Hospitality businesses also won’t require complete internal networking to collaborate with multiple departments like Frontdesk, F&B, Traveldesk etc. nor need in-house or visiting IT staff and overheads in terms of upgrades and maintenance issues. In a Legacy model, hotels need to significantly invest on the software, hardware, create a secure climate controlled atmosphere, pay import duties for all the technological requirements and maintain a dedicated IT support team to manage the Internal IT infrastructure. With a Cloud based solution, hoteliers just need to subscribe and pay a monthly fee – in case they want to discontinue, they can easily decide likewise because there is no heavy capital expenditure incurred, nor any major business changes made to suit their IT solutions.

Shawn also covered topics such as the real time data backup and BCP mechanism in Hotelogix that provides hospitality businesses with data backups every hour ensuring that their last saved data is maximum one hour old. Such mechanisms are extremely difficult to replicate in-house for any SMB business, leave alone hospitality. Shawn touched upon how Hotelogix seamlessly integrates with accounting systems and channel managers without any extra burden on the hotel.

Shawn thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the students “The tourism program is great, these are all fourth year students who shall graduate at the end of the year and many would go to work in management in hotels. By exposing them to Hotelogix and the benefits of a cloud based PMS, the students shall realize what the available options are and when they see a big pile of paper running the business, they’ll know which system to replace it with and whom to call.”

Aditya Sanghi, CEO and co-founder of Hotelogix is ecstatic with the response from the college and the faith that Caribtek has in Hotelogix as a product, “It is great to see that our resellers so firmly believe in our product, that they, on their own are able to conduct insightful seminars for students on the benefits of using Cloud-based solutions as opposed to a legacy solution. The timing of the seminar also couldn’t have been better, since Hotelogix has been conducting a Switch to Cloud Campaign and addressing hoteliers across the globe on why Cloud Based Solutions are the best PMS options for a small and mid-sized hotel.”
