Travellers can save up to $80 per person one way by taking a flight on Christmas Day.

The most interesting results were found for those flying trans-Tasman over the festive season.

According to Webjet, December 22 is the most expensive day to travel to Auckland with flights coming in at an average of $479 one way. Travelling on Christmas Eve will save $30 while taking a flight on Christmas Day will save an extra $50.

“With a large number of Australians trying to get home for Christmas or get away for New Year’s Eve celebrations, flight prices tend to sky-rocket but we’ve found there is a way to save over the most expensive time of year.

Flying on days like Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve could mean considerable savings.” said John Guscic, Managing Director of Webjet Limited.

Australian domestic flights are no different, with flights leaving Christmas Day coming in at an average of $30 cheaper.

Similarly, Australians flying in to Sydney on New Year’s Eve will save an average of $35 compared to flying in on the days prior.
