How To Survive A Family Cruise?

February 27, 2017 Cruise Deals No Comments Email Email

A family cruise can seem like an excellent idea when you book it at first, but as time goes on, you may start to reconsider. Being trapped on a ship with your entire family can go from fun to disastrous in just a few short arguments. Luckily we’re here to help you with a few tips about how to survive your next family cruise. It’s All About Planning

The annoying phrase ‘fail to prepare, prepare to fail’ is very much true for a family vacation. Think about where you’re departing from, how your family will get there and where you’re making stops. If you need a bit of a break then you can stay in a hotel at one of the ports, you can even check with the cruise operator if they have any preferred partners.

You should even consider what you’re taking with you and remind family members of what they need to take too. Maybe you know an uncle that needs a support pillow or a child that suffers with motion sickness, remind them to take the things that make them most comfortable.

Activities and things to do

Many cruise ships have activities for kids, assuming that the grownups will be happy to amuse themselves. One of the saving graces for parents on cruise ships are activities like online games on bingo sites that can be accessed from your cabin. There are loads of people that can’t imagine leaving their favourite bingo sites and games behind for the duration of the trip and with online games, there’s no need to.

Communicate Effectively

On many occasions on a family holiday, not everyone wants to do the same thing. Maybe you want to eat at a certain restaurant or see a certain sight, the point is you don’t all have to do the same activities. Just communicate properly about what you’re going to do and when you’ll meet back up with the rest of the group to have a group of happy campers.

Remember that childcare must be accounted for, don’t count on one person who likes kids to deal with them all the time. This can become irritating and lead to a bit of friction between people.

Allow for Changes

There’s no point planning out every single detail of your trip, though you should have a rough idea of what you want to do. Allowing yourself to be flexible for new experiences or changes of heart will help you to enjoy things more. If you have an itinerary full of activities, you might feel guilty for just wanting to relax but this is what a cruise is all about!

Take Some Alone Time

Being around your family 24/7 is draining! Take some time to sit alone, read a book or chill by the pool. It’s ok to need some ‘me time’, especially when you’re accustomed to hanging out with a large group of people. Everyone has a different personality type and some people don’t enjoy being around others for long periods of time, don’t be offended if you’re with a person that falls into this category.

With these tips in mind, you might just have the best vacation ever! Just remember to make the most of it and enjoy your family’s company and the rest will simply come naturally.
