HSBC launches first ever “HSBC Community Day” to bring the local community together in the lead up to the Sevens

To celebrate the partnership between HSBC and the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs), the first ever HSBC Community Day will be launched on 5 April. Together with a variety of rugby activations around the city, the initiative aims to promote the idea that the sport gives people a sense of belonging. Bringing the spirit of rugby to the wider community makes the event the perfect lead up to the Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens.

HSBC Community Day

As the proud co-title sponsor of Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens and an early supporter of TWGHs, HSBC shares the success of its sponsorship of rugby with the local community through this new initiative.

This year, the HSBC Community Day offers a unique opportunity for the people of Hong Kong and their families to show care and support to those in need, whilst sharing in the excitement of a fun day out with the Hong Kong community. Don’t miss inspirational performances by The Unsung Heroes, a choir comprising of more than 70 foreign domestic workers, and the E Major Ensemble, pioneered by TWGHs Elderly Services Section.

As an extension of the HSBC Try Rugby programme, and to promote Rugby Sevens to a wider local audience, Olympic swimmer and HSBC Community Day ambassador, Stephanie Au, will be present as a show of support and be involved in the excitement of the day. As a sports enthusiast, she will share her first-hand experience of taking part in a recreational sport, as well as learning the basics of rugby, followed by a meet and greet session with those attending the HSBC Community Day. All children aged between 5 and 12 are welcome to try out the coaching clinics for free.

An array of community activities will be set up to celebrate the HSBC Community Day, including:

  • Seven interactive game booths with exciting giveaways showcasing TWGHs social and educational services projects sponsored by HSBC, including large scale projects Intelligent Robot for SEN (Special Educational Needs) Children Learning – Robot4SEN Project and Parents Academy
  • Live dance and band performances by TWGHs DARE Performance Teams
  • Special choir performances by the Unsung Heroes and E Major Ensemble
  • Roaming performers, including balloon twisters, plate spinners, jugglers and stilt walkers
