LA’s charismatic R&B collective The Internet will make their Sydney Opera House Concert Hall debut on Wednesday 6 March 2019 to perform their critically acclaimed fourth album, Hive Mind.

Following two sold-out Australian tours, the group returns to Sydney with their most seductive, neo-soul album yet. Entirely self-written and produced, it blends their signature slinky bass and languorous drums with plush arrangements and deep funk, soul grooves.

Fronted by the opulent melodies of singer-songwriter and prominent queer R&B figure Syd (formerly Syd Tha Kyd), the ascent of the five-person outfit has been fast and deserving. Originally a side hustle from sprawling hip-hop collective Odd Future – led by fellow Sydney Opera House alumnus Tyler, The Creator –, Syd and producer Matt Martians honed their skills across three albums before including bassist Patrick Page II, drummer Christopher Smith and the youngest member of the group, 20-year-old Steve Lacy.

Simultaneously entering the echelon of mainstream R&B and effortlessly contributing to the wider zeitgeist of queer love acceptance, the power of The Internet’s music is embodied by 2015’s breakthrough album, Ego Death. The Grammy-nominated album garnered incredible international acclaim and was followed by numerous sold-out global tours. In between recent albums, success continued in their individual projects including Syd’s highly praised solo album Fin (2017) and Lacy’s collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Tyler, The Creator and Blood Orange.

Now, following neo-soul heavyweights D’AngeloErykah Badu and Lauryn Hill as well as fellow new school contemporary H.E.R., The Internet will make their Concert Hall debut in a sublime evening of honey-coated funk and soul next March.
