Hurricane Harvey forces Air NZ flight to divert

August 29, 2017 Headline News No Comments Email Email

An Air New Zealand flight to Houston was among many hit by Hurricane Harvey as the storm system slammed into Texas – it was forced to divert to Los Angeles International Airport yesterday morning after Harvey closed down Houston airport.

The return service, NZ29 (Houston to Auckland), scheduled to depart Houston at 10.15pm (local time) yesterday, was cancelled.

Qantas also flies to Texas, but it serves Dallas, which has so far largely escaped the depredations of Harvey.

Air New Zealand said yesterday it was monitoring the situation and would re-book its customers on alternative services as options became available, the Otago Daily Times reported.

In Houston, water is rising even to the second storeys of houses, forcing people onto rooftops or higher ground. More rain is set to fall, with flood levels expected to peak on Wednesday or Thursday and forecasters warning of the possibility of tornadoes.
