Hyatt Announces Relief Effort For Super Typhoon Haiyan

November 23, 2013 Responsible Tourism No Comments Email Email

In response to the super typhoon Haiyan, which left a tragic trail of destruction across the Philippines, Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE:H) has donated USD 50,000 to Mercy Corps – an international nonprofit organisation that helps people around the world to survive and thrive following a natural disaster.
Additionally, the Hyatt family pledges to match total donations made by its colleagues and guests worldwide – up to USD 25,000 – through to December 6, in a bid to aid the immediate care and long-term recovery of those communities affected.

“We are all deeply saddened by the tragic loss and devastation experienced in the wake of Super Typhoon Haiyan,” said Larry Tchou, Asia Pacific Group President, Hyatt Hotels Corporation.  “While we remain thankful to hear that our colleagues at Hyatt Regency Manila are safe from the storm, our hearts go out to the thousands of families who lost loved ones or who were adversely impacted by the typhoon.  We are now coming together to focus our efforts on helping those families and communities which require special care and attention.”

Hyatt is now calling for colleagues and guests to join the ‘matching gift’ campaign for Mercy Corps through the following two ways:

  • Visit to make a cash donation, to be matched by Hyatt
  • Donate Hyatt Gold Passport® points in 5,000 point increments.  Each 5,000-point donation results in a USD 25 gift to Mercy Corps.  To support this effort, please call Hyatt Gold Passport customer service toll free at +1.402.593.8615.
