The US-owned Hyatt hotel chain will return to South Australia after a 15-year hiatus, with plans for a major new 295-room property in Pirie Street, in Adelaide’s CBD.
Hyatt’s vice president of real estate and development (Asia-Pacific), Monika Dubaj, told Australia’s Austrade that the venue would expand Hyatt’s Australian network.
“The hotel is part of our strategy to provide more offerings to travellers,” Dubaj said.
“New destinations such as Adelaide and Brisbane … will complement our current portfolio.”
Construction of the landmark, Hyatt Regency property will start in early 2020, and generate approximately 400 jobs. Once open, the hotel will employ a permanent staff of 200.
The project was made possible by an agreement between the Singapore construction and property group, CES Pirie Hotel (SA) Pty Ltd and the US hospitality group, Hyatt Hotels Corporation.
The building will include a swimming pool, fitness facilities and 750 metres of event space. It is expected to open in early 2023.
