ICC Sydney is a Catalyst for Growth for the New South Wales Wine Industry

In its latest move to support the NSW wine industry, International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) will be the host venue for two major thought leading events that will showcase the State’s finest vintages to sommeliers, wine media and educators.

ICC Sydney’s Beverage Operations and Cellar Manager, William Wilson (L), with New South Wales Wine Industry Association President, Tom Ward (R), tasting ICC Sydney’s Wine Collection.

The events NSW Wines: Overlooked or Undiscovered? by Sommeliers Australia and Taste the State: New South Wales by Wine Communicators of Australia, will both be held on Monday 27 March. Each event will explore all 14 NSW wine regions with informative tastings led by experts, including ICC Sydney’s Beverage Operations and Cellar Manager, William Wilson, who said that the region is currently producing wines of unprecedented quality.

“I am incredibly proud that ICC Sydney’s focus on quality NSW wine is informing the content and focus of these well regarded organisations, which provide a forum to exchange knowledge between some of Australia’s leading wine experts and introduce them to the buyers of local venues.”

“It is an exciting time for NSW wine as emerging regions become more consistent and established regions just seem to get better and better. Our panel created the ICC Sydney Wine Collection following a tasting of over 1,000 labels from more than 300 wineries. The collection comprises 93 wines, 80% of which are from NSW vineyards. This simply would not have been possible a decade ago.”

“The diversity of climate and terrain in NSW can now provide the platform for wide-ranging wine lists. These distinct environments have fostered ongoing success for established varieties, such as the renowned Hunter Semillons, as well as encouraging the emergence of alternative varieties and new producers who are making some truly unique wines,” he said.

New South Wales Wine Industry Association President, Tom Ward, is delighted with the ripple effect ICC Sydney’s focus on quality local wines is now having across the wine community.

“The local wine community was delighted when ICC Sydney announced it would focus its menu on NSW wine.  We knew that ICC Sydney’s wine consumption would have a great result for wine maker bottom lines but we didn’t quite expect the industry response to manifest so quickly through events such as these.”

“Now we’ll be watching to see how the venue’s ability to showcase our wine to national and international audiences further stimulates awareness and demand,” said Ward.

With almost 500 wine producers and 329 cellar doors, the State produces some of the top wines in the world. ICC Sydney’s Wine Collection includes a range of boutique wineries, giving the list a distinct point of difference, while highlighting the quality and diversity of local vintages.
