IGG Destination Marketing in partnership with Air New Zealand recently hosted a group of Australian and New Zealand based agents in the southern city. After a year of topping travel lists including being named a must see destination for millennials, the trip aimed to showcase all that is great about Memphis, along with highlighting Air New Zealand’s gateway to the city.

The recent trip offered those who travelled the chance to not only explore Memphis’ most iconic sites and the city’s rich history, but also to experience its new and modern attractions. The famil also allowed those travelling the chance to immerse themselves in the music and sound that the great Southern city is so famous for.

Highlights of the trip included eating at the Arcade Restaurant, one of the oldest restaurants in Memphis and once a favourite spot for Elvis Presley amongst other famous musicians. Showcasing Memphis’ short proximity to Mississippi, the trip also included a day spent in Tupelo MS, more prominently known as the birthplace of Elvis. Tupelo Hardware Co. was also on the agenda, where Elvis purchased his first guitar.

Other highlights of the trip comprised of a visit to the new Edge Motor Museum, followed by a short walk across the road to Sun Studio, which features a Oldsmobile Rocket 88 that sits out the front and is fittingly named after the studios very first hit record. The Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church allowed the group to experience the magic of soulful gospel music and – on a totally different note – the group also spent the night at the Memphis Zoo for Zoodio 54. As the Zoo’s largest fundraising event of the year and undoubtedly the hottest ticket in town, the event featured four stages of live entertainment and hosted over 70 Mid-South restaurants and bars to feast from.

With Memphis International Airport experiencing its fifth straight fiscal year of passenger growth, the city continues to be a trending destination for travellers around the world, including those from Australia and New Zealand. This hosted trip allowed the industry professionals that travelled the chance to experience the culture, soul and history that Memphis is so famous for, along with a firsthand glimpse into the city’s bright future.
